Central Taiwan is home to Sun Moon Lake, whose roughly 30 km lakeside cycleway is regularly listed among the world's most beautiful bike routes — a mostly flat loop on dedicated boardwalks and lanes past temples, turquoise water and mountain backdrops. Rentals, including e-bikes and tandems, cluster at the Shuishe and Xiangshan visitor areas.

Taichung itself is flat and easy: the Houfeng and Dongfeng bikeways follow a former railway with lit tunnels and an old iron bridge, making a relaxed half-day. Bike shops in the city and around Nantou serve casual riders and tourers heading up into the central mountains alike.
