Shikoku, Japan's smallest main island, is quietly one of its best for cycling, with the Shimanami Kaido on its northern edge and calm rural roads throughout. Takamatsu and its garden Ritsurin-koen, Matsuyama with the Dogo Onsen, Tokushima and the rivers of Kochi all make good bases.
