The Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) around Fujikawaguchiko are the postcard place to ride, with Mount Fuji filling the skyline. The loop around Lake Kawaguchi is short and mostly flat and makes an easy half-day, while Lake Yamanaka has a longer, quieter lakeside circuit; e-bikes are the popular choice because the connecting roads roll and the whole area sits above 800 metres.

To the south, Hakone and the Izu Peninsula trade lakes for hot-spring towns, sea views and steeper forest climbs that suit stronger road riders. Spring and autumn give the crispest Fuji views; midwinter is cold but often the clearest of all.
