Awaji Island, in the Seto Inland Sea between Kobe and Shikoku, is best known among cyclists for 'Awaichi' — the roughly 150 km loop around its coastline. It is a classic one-day challenge for fit riders, with sea views most of the way and a largely gentle profile broken by a few climbs in the south.

Road bikes and e-bikes are the usual rentals, and because Awaichi is a loop, some shops offer one-way pickup and drop-off, and even delivery, so you can start and finish where it suits you. Spring and autumn are ideal; summer is hot and exposed along the open coast.
